Lazarus Botsi was born on a farm called Geluk in Brits, located in the North West Province. He grew up listening to a wide range of musicians and genres, all of which played a significant role in shaping his unique sound.

Lazarus later lived in Mohlaletse, Ga-Sekhukhune, where he was a devoted member of the Assemblies of God Church and served in the church choir. Recognizing his musical talent, he formed a group called Laz and the Three Sisters, consisting of himself, Tebatso, Reckie, and Mahlako. The group became well-known in the area for performing at church gatherings and School Christian Movement (SCM) events.

Throughout his schooling, Lazarus regularly sang during assemblies and in school choirs. He was determined that once he completed high school, he would pursue his dream of becoming a gospel singer. True to his word, after matriculating, he moved to Rustenburg for further studies and settled in Phokeng.

His musical journey gained momentum in Rustenburg, where his talent began to flourish. He eventually met Pastor Jabu Nkabinde, who was producing music for Rebecca Malope at the time. Pastor Nkabinde gave Lazarus an opportunity, and to this day, they continue to work together. Pastor Nkabinde produced Lazarus’s debut album, Modimo O Lerato.

Now a respected gospel musician, Lazarus is dedicated to offering something different and unique to his fans by creating and sharing original music. For him, music is more than just an outlet—it's a form of praise and worship to God.

Since entering the professional music industry in the early 2000s, Lazarus Botsi has captured the hearts of fans nationwide with his distinctive voice and fresh interpretations of both new songs and classic hymns.

He performs in multiple languages, including Setswana, isiZulu, Sesotho, Sepedi, English, and isiXhosa, making his music relatable to South Africans across all cultures and age groups.

Lazarus has shared the stage with celebrated artists such as Dr. Tumi, Lucas Maloma, Pastor Jabu Nkabinde, Putuma Tiso, Siphokazi, Kholeka Dubula, Kgotso Makgalema, Jonas Masotla, and Siyakha Khitha of Joyous Celebration. He also collaborated with Pastor Jabu Nkabinde on his debut album, Modimo O Lerato (God Is Love).

In 2016, Modimo O Lerato was nominated for Album of the Year at the 3rd Independent Gospel Music Awards (INGOMAs), marking Lazarus as a rising star in the gospel music industry. His growing reputation has led to more artists reaching out to collaborate with him.

His discography includes the studio album Modimo O Lerato and several singles such as Ukunqoba, Ukholo Lwam', and Maotong A Jeso. He recently recorded his second live album, Phakama Jesu, at Roodepoort Theatre.

Lazarus Botsi’s latest single, Phakama Jesu, has been nominated for Best Gospel Single at the 2024 11th INGOMAs. He has also received a nomination for Best Male Artist.

A heavenly soothing hymn with beautiful lyrical content and joyful harmonies If you have listened to Lazarus Botsi’s music, you will know he has the rare ability to bring audiences to the Lord’s throne through worship. And he seems to have achieved the same effect again in his new single Maotong A Jeso (At Jesus’ feet), a heavenly soothing hymn with beautiful lyrical content and joyful harmonies. The song carries a great message about the joy of waiting on the Lord, awaiting His next instruction, and ultimately finding rest at the feet of Jesus Christ.   Ke ntse ke lebetse Morena Go ikhutsa Maotong a gagwe Gaufi le ena gore ke rutwe Gore moya waka o gomotswe Go Monate thata Go monate thata Go nna Maotong a Jeso - A Jeso Go monate thata Thata go rutwa ke Jeso Boitumelo bo mo go ene Le pholo e, e itekanetseng E e tswang mading a itshekisang A tswa letlhakoreng la gagwe
